When Windows 11 was announced, one of the biggest features advertised was the eventual compatibility with Android apps. A couple of months after launch, we’re still waiting for them to be officially implemented. However, Amazon just announced that more than 1,000 apps will be coming to Windows 11 via the Amazon Appstore preview.

The Amazon Appstore preview will bring more than 1,000 Android apps to Windows 11

Back when Windows 11 was announced, we got the news that we’d be able to use Android apps on the operating system. Apps would be able to run natively on the software using a virtual machine, basically.

The only issue is that this is done through the Amazon Appstore, and not the Google Play store. This means that apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, YouTube, etc. will not be supported.
Regardless, this is still a well sought-after feature. Right now, it’s in beta testing with the Windows Insider program. The beta program has 25 apps to use right now. However, based on a new update from Amazon, there will be more than 1,000 apps coming to Windows 11.

Amazon introduced the Amazon Appstore Preview. This is going to be available to the public so most people should be able to be involved. Right now, there’s not much information on when this will be available, or what apps will be involved in this.

However, Amazon’s developer evangelist will be hosting a fireside chat live on Twitch on Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m GMT/10:00 a.m PST. During the chat, we should get much more information about this coming preview.

People port different software to different devices all the time. For example, a person was able to get Wordle running on an original Game Boy. A Twitter user named @kdragon was able to shock everyone by porting Windows 11 onto a Pixel 6.

You’d expect a person to port Android 12, to a Windows computer, but not the other way around. A person was able to get the full desktop version of Windows 11 running on a Pixel 6 via a virtual machine.
While this was very impressive, the interface was formatted for a portrait display. This means that the taskbar was compressed, and all of the Windows as well. Regardless, this was still an impressive feat.
