App listings on the Google Play Store will soon get a new section named “Compatibility for your active devices,” a new report claims. This section will be visible when tapping “About this app” on any given app. It lists your devices and will tell you in plain terms if the app is compatible with the device.

9to5Google claims the new compatibility section is available in a limited capacity and only via Play Store version 30.6.16-21. But considering what it brings to the table, it’s only a matter of time before it rolls out more widely. But since we don’t have official word from Google yet, we may have to wait a while to find it on the Play Store.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the “About this app” section reveals compatibility information and other relevant data. As the screenshots show, users can determine if their existing connected devices, such as a smartwatch or a Chromecast, are compatible with a particular app.

Your smartphone appears first under the new compatibility section, followed by subsections like Compatibility, Version, and Required OS. On the other hand, smartwatches and streaming devices feature an additional “Download size” subsection.

Although it sits below the App info section, the inclusion of detailed compatibility information is a welcome addition to the Play Store. This new option provides a convenient way to ascertain whether an app would work with a wearable or a streaming device.

Naturally, the “Compatibility for your active devices” section will only show devices connected to your Google account. It won’t mention paired devices that have been inactive for over a month. We should also point out that the “Required OS” subsection was previously known as “Android OS,” with the change coming into effect last month.

The web version of the Google Play Store recently underwent a redesign

Google recently brought some changes to the desktop/web version of the Play Store. Users can now seamlessly filter between games or apps for phones, tablets, TV, and the Chromebook. The new-look Play Store also has some elements of the Material You design philosophy. Material You was first introduced at I/O 2021 and took center stage with Android 12 last fall.
