Say Goodbye To Your Wallet Because The Steam Summer Sale Is Live

Ahhhh yes, it’s that time of year again, where you launch the Steam client on your PC and you’re instantly blinded by the savings. We’re of course talking about the Steam Summer Sale. It’s PC gaming’s biggest sale of the year and arguably where you’re going to find the best discounts on PC games.

If you’ve been meaning to add some titles to your library, now is generally the best time to do so. Because the savings are huge, the games are plentiful, and you absolutely need a bunch of new games that will sit in your library untouched as your backlog continues to grow into an ungainly beast, right?

Plus, this is the first Steam Summer Sale since the Steam Deck’s launch. Giving you the perfect reason to grab some new games. Who knows. You might stumble upon some awesome titles to add to your shiny new portable gaming PC.

The discounts are vast and can go as high as 90% off. Sniper Elite 4 is down to just $6 (it’s normally $60). Ghostrunner is down to $12. Even new releases like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and GhostWire: Tokyo are on sale for $48 and $30 respectively. Basically, the sale is at least worth browsing.

The Steam Summer Sale lasts until July 7

Worried you won’t have enough time to grab the games you want? Well, toss those worries in the trash and let them be a burden to you no longer. Because the sale lasts until July 7, giving you two weeks to snag the titles you want on the cheap.

This isn’t really any different from past summer sales as they’ve all lasted for two weeks. But just in case you’d forgotten, you have plenty of time.

In addition to the game discounts, Steam is also doing its usual little bit of something extra by giving users something to strive towards. This year it comes in the form of a special quest from a fictional character named Clorthax. A time traveling trickster from the future who has hidden games around Steam and it’s your job to find them.

He won’t tell you exactly where they are, though. Instead, you’re given clues that will lead you to these games, and in finding them you can earn special badges.

Some tips for finding games you’ll love

While at least one of these is generally more useful if it’s done beforehand, there are some tips to ensuring you don’t miss out on discounts for games you’ve been wanting. The biggest tip is something to consider for next year’s summer sale and any future sales on Steam. And that’s to go through and add games you want to your wishlist.

This is because Steam will always notify you about games going on sale if they’re on your wishlist. And if you have this done before sales like the Summer Sale hit, you’ll know if anything you’ve been waiting to buy is at available at a better than usual price as part of the big sale.

Another handy tip is if you aren’t sure what’s on sale and you’d just like to browse, utilize Steam’s menu for browsing the sale by genre. This way you can narrow things down by the types of games you like to play.
