This is how Twitter’s upcoming edit function could work – Phandroid

Earlier this month, Twitter confirmed that an edit button is in the works. This is a feature that many Twitter users have long been asking for, and it looks like it could be launching soon, although the company did not share too many details on what we might be able to expect from it.

Now thanks to additional screenshots shared by Alessandro Paluzzi on Twitter, we are starting to get an idea of what to expect. From what we can see, it seems that Twitter doesn’t want people to edit their posts and act as if nothing changed.

Judging by the screenshots, it seems that tweets that have been edited will now show a blue pen icon alongside the word “Edited” to indicate that the tweet might have been edited. It also seems that these edited tweets can be clicked and the edit history will be shown. This seems to be in line with an earlier report that suggested that Twitter might be looking to keep a record of edited tweets.

Paluzzi goes on to note that tweets can only be edited for an hour after they have been published, meaning that users cannot go back to older tweets to make any changes. Twitter had previously been kind of against editing tweets, claiming that to do so would take away from the spontaneous nature of its platform.

While the inclusion of an edit button seems to indicate the company could be having a change of heart, these additional details suggests that there will be some compromises. That being said, keep in mind that the feature isn’t live yet so what we are seeing now could change once the feature is launched.
