YouTube is making Experiments more accessible. Eligible users can now access experimental YouTube features from within the app. Earlier, users needed to visit a dedicated Experiments portal on the desktop to enable new, unreleased YouTube features.

According to an Android Police report, some YouTube Premium users are now seeing a new banner on the app’s homepage that lets them enable the available beta features without leaving the app. YouTube notes that you can only try one experimental feature at a time. But you can switch between different features at any time. Just keep an eye on the expiry date as beta features are usually available for a limited time only.

YouTube Experiments currently lists two beta features: translate comments and picture-in-picture on iOS. The former, as you’d expect, lets you translate comments that are not in your primary language. It adds a new “Translate” button below such comments. Once translated, a “See original” button will replace it so you can quickly switch back to the original language. This feature is available to both Android and iOS users until September 9th.

Picture-in-picture (PiP) on iOS is, of course, an iOS-only feature and does just as it says. With this feature, iPhone users can continue to watch YouTube videos in a mini-player while using some other app. You can The video will appear in a floating window. To open a YouTube video in PiP, you can swipe up or press home while watching the video in the YouTube app. Note that the video will pause if you lock your phone. You can use the lock screen media controls to resume it. This feature will be available until October 31st.

YouTube Experiments are available to Premium subscribers only

If you’re hoping to try either of these unreleased YouTube features, be informed that you’ll require a Premium subscription. The company made Experiments exclusive to Premium subscribers in October last year. Earlier, it picked random users for beta testing the new features.

Nonetheless, many people likely never knew YouTube has something call Experiments where you can try out unreleased features. By making Experiments available from within the app, the company could gain many new beta testers. If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber, you should be seeing the new Experiments banner anytime now if you haven’t already. You can tap the “Try it Out” button below any of the listed beta features to enable it for you. If the banner hasn’t appeared for you yet, you can always visit the desktop portal.
