Young England cricketer Ollie Pope took a flying catch on Tuesday during a practice session with Surrey County Cricket Club. The official Twitter handle of Surrey poked fun at Pope using the video, saying the 23-year-old put extra effort while fielding once the camera is out and we are recording. “CAMERA’S OUT! An extra ounce of effort when we’re recording @OPope32?” Surrey Cricket captioned the clip on Twitter. Pope is currently part of Surrey’s squad in the ongoing Country Championship 2021.

Just two weeks ago, Pope produced a terrific knock as Surrey held Leicestershire for a draw in their County Champions match. Pope, who scored 245 runs off 272 balls in the match, fell six runs short of his career-best. Pope’s knock was laced with 29 boundaries.

Surrey are currently placed at the fourth spot in Group 2, County Championship table with 46 points. So far, they have played four games, won one, lost two and drew a match. Surrey will next take on Leicestershire in their reverse leg at the Grace Road, Leicester. The match will start on May 6.

Pope has represented England in 17 Test matches and amassed 798 runs at an average of 31.92. So far, he has scored one century and five fifties, with his highest score being 135.

Pope made his debut in red-ball cricket in 2018, during India’s tour of England. He was named in England’s playing XI for the second Test of the five-match series against India. He scored 28 runs on debut as England won the match by an innings and 158 runs. England won the Test series, 4-1.

Pope was also part of England’s squad that travelled to India earlier this year for an all-format series. India won the T20I series 3-2, ODI series 2-1 and Test series 3-1.
