Gamers on the PC now have native access to the cloud gaming features of Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft announced this morning. While Xbox Game Pass has offered cloud gaming on PC since earlier this year, the feature wasn’t actually available through the Xbox app.

So, if you wanted to stream games over the cloud, you would need to login to the Xbox website and stream them through there. As of today, the access is native so there’s less of a barrier between you and some game time.

Now this is still a beta version of the feature. So Microsoft hasn’t fully rolled it out to everyone just yet. And that’s another key factor in enjoying games in the cloud if you wanted to test things yourself.

PC cloud gaming is only native for Xbox Insiders

Microsoft is making it easier to access Xbox games in the cloud for PC users. But it’s still not open to just anyone. You’re required to be an Xbox Insider if you want to be able to play games via the cloud, Not to mention you also need the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

Keep in mind that’s a $14.99 a month subscription. But it is an excellent value for everything you get. If you’re not already an Xbox Insider, joining the program is quite easy and approval happens almost instantaneously. However the native access in today’s announcement is only available for users in 22 countries.

This includes the US, the UK, Spain, Italy, and a lot more. You can view the full list of countries here.

You’ll need to opt into the Windows Gaming Preview

If you’re already an Xbox Insider, there’s one last thing you need to do. Before you can play games in the cloud through the Xbox PC app, you need to opt into the Windows Gaming Preview.

You’ll find this inside of the Xbox Insider App as one of the programs you can sign up for. This only takes a minute to do. So once you’ve done that, you can go back to the Xbox Game Pass app and you should see cloud gaming as an option there now.
