For years, despite our phones getting slimmer than ever, the camera bumps continue to remain. This has resulted in generations of smartphones that are simply unable to lie flat on their back due to the massive bumps, but Samsung might have the solution with their latest camera sensor, the ISOCELL JN1.

The new ISOCELL JN1 is a 50MP sensor with a size measuring 0.64 microns, 1/2.76-inches, and 0.64μm pixels. According to Samsung, the new specs of the sensor will offer features like 16% improved light sensitivity, 4-in-1 Pixel binning, and better overall low-light image capturing capabilities.

Some other features that we can expect from the sensor include Double Super PDAF that uses twice the density of pixels for phase detection autofocus, meaning that even in low light situations, it should have an easier time focusing on the subject. It can also record 4K 60fps videos and 1080p slow-mo videos at 240fps.

While it might not be a flagship sensor that we should expect to see in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy S22 in 2022, the fact that it is this small does give us hope that in the future, Samsung might take the technology and apply it to more of their cameras to help slim down camera bumps.
