Mobile network data traffic has doubled in just two years.

Global 5G subscriptions crossed the one billion milestone at the end of 2022, according to the From the latest Ericsson Mobility Report statistics. Around 136 million 5G subscriptions were created worldwide between October and December 2022, bringing the total to just over one billion.

By the end of 2022, 235 communications service providers (CSPs) have launched commercial 5G services. About 35 CSPs have deployed or launched stand-alone 5G networks (SA). The three-page Q4 2022 update is a supplement to the full edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report published in November 2022, which includes statistics back to the third fiscal quarter of 2022, including the third fiscal quarter of 2022.

The Q4 update included the following data:

• There were more than 8.4 billion mobile subscriptions at the end of 2022, which is a net increase of 39 million between October and December 2022.
• The most net mobile subscriptions were created in Nigeria between October and December 2022, more than four million. In the Philippines, more than three million new mobile phone subscribers were added.
• On the closing date of 2022, there were approximately 6.1 billion unique mobile subscribers.
• About 86 percent of all mobile subscriptions are mobile broadband services.
• Mobile network data traffic increased by 40 percent between the fourth quarter of 2021 and the fourth quarter of 2022, reaching 118 EB (exabytes) per month.
• Mobile network data traffic increased by ten percent from quarter to quarter between the third and fourth quarter of 2022.
• Mobile network data traffic has doubled in just two years.
• The number of 4G subscriptions increased by 36 million in October-December 2022, to around 5.1 billion, which accounts for 60 percent of all mobile subscriptions.
• WCDMA/HSPA subscriptions fell by 89 million in Q4 2022, while GSM/EDGE-only subscriptions fell by 40 million over the same period.
